	Showalter likes Bautista's defense Associated Press
	ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Utility infielder-outfielder Andy Fox was acquired by the Florida Marlins from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday for outfielder Danny Bautista. Fox, 29, hit .209 with one homer and 19 RBIs in 31 games, including 10 starts. He batted .255 with six homers and 33 RBIs a year ago after setting personal highs in games (139), at bats (502), runs (67), hits (139) and RBIs (44), while hitting .277 with nine homers in 1998. Fox had been with Arizona throughout the franchise's brief history and his hustling style made him one of the Diamondbacks' most popular players in their first season, 1998. With Arizona, he played every position except pitcher and catcher. "I've known Andy for a long time," Diamondbacks manager Buck Showalter said, "and I think everybody in this organization respects the way he goes about his business. The Marlins should be very proud to have him be a part of their organization, like we were." Bautista, 27, hit .191 with four homers and 12 RBIs for Florida this season. The Diamondbacks made the deal because they can use another right-handed hitting outfielder and they like Bautista's defensive abilities. "He plays with a lot of passion, a lot of energy," Showalter said. "We're excited because we think this makes us a better club. He's an above-average defender at all three outfield positions." Bautista, a career .244 hitter who has played for Detroit and Atlanta, is to be in uniform for Arizona's game against California on Saturday. The deal was one of two the Marlins announced before Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Florida also obtained right-hander Chuck Smith in a three-way deal that sent outfielder Brant Brown to the Chicago Cubs, who shipped outfielder Dave Martinez to the Texas Rangers.
