| ANAHEIM, Calif. -- New York Yankees third baseman Scott Brosius strained a rib cage muscle taking batting practice Tuesday night and will be placed on the disabled list.

| Brosius | After a 5-3 win over Anaheim, manager Joe Torre said Brosius will go on the disabled list Wednesday.
Brosius was scratched from the starting lineup after hurting himself. Clay Bellinger replaced him at third and made an error against the Angels.
Brosius, a Gold Glove winner, was 0-for-2 in the Yankees' 3-2 victory over the Angels in the opener Monday night.
Brosius batted .247 last year with 17 homers and 71 RBI. He was MVP of the 1998 World Series.
Bellinger batted .200 with one homer and two RBI in 45 at-bats for the Yankees last season.
