SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Jeff Kent simply wanted to get his bat on the ball. He did, singling in the 13th inning to drive in the go-ahead run, giving the San Francisco Giants a 4-3 win Saturday night over the San Diego Padres. Kent singled off Carlos Almanzar (4-5) to score Marvin Benard from third base and give the Giants their 14th win in 17 games, lowering their magic number for clinching the NL West to eight. "I was just trying to push the ball in the outfield," Kent said. "I was just trying to get a base hit in that situation. I got good enough wood to put it in play." Benard led off the inning with a walk and stole second. He advanced to third on Bill Mueller's long fly ball to center. Almanzar then intentionally walked Barry Bonds, bringing up Kent. Alan Embree (3-4) pitched the 12th inning for the win and Robb Nen struck out the side in the 13th for his 37th save in 42 chances. "They played us tough again, man," Giants manager Dusty Baker said. "If you're going to stay out there this long, you might as well win it." "It was a tough one and we're playing a good club," Padres manager Bruce Bochy said. "We just fell a little short." Both teams had opportunities to end the game earlier. San Diego's Ben Davis led off the bottom of the 11th with a single off of Doug Henry. Adam Eaton pinch ran and moved to second on a sacrifice and Damian Jackson walked with one out. Eric Owens grounded out advancing the runners to second and third, but Ryan Klesko popped up to end the threat. San Francisco had two men on with two out in the top 12, but Armando Rios grounded out to second. For the second straight game, San Diego came back to tie the score in the seventh inning. A one-out walk to Davis and Joe Vitiello's pinch-hit single knocked out Giants starter Kirk Rueter. Damian Jackson then fisted an inside pitch to right off Aaron Fultz to cut the lead to 3-2. Eric Owens' groundout against Felix Rodriguez brought in pinch-runner Kory DeHaan with the tying run. Bonds drove in the first three Giants' runs with a two-run single in the third inning off Jay Witasick and a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Bonds had three RBI, giving him 101 for the season, the ninth 100-RBI season of his career. The Padres cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth following a leadoff double by Davis. After a sacrifice, Davis scored on Jackson's sacrifice fly. Bonds robbed Desi Relaford of a home run in the fourth with a leaping catch above the left-field fence. The Giants wasted a scoring chance in the sixth, when they had the bases loaded with no outs. After singles by Snow and Ellis Burks to open the inning, Will Cunnane replaced Witasick. A walk to Rich Aurilia loaded the bases. But Doug Mirabelli bounced into a force out at home and Rueter hit into a double play. Rueter allowed three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Game notesBonds is hitting .332 with 27 home runs and 65 RBI in his career at San Diego. ... Bonds has 19 RBI in his last 11 games. ... Ryan Klesko's third-inning double was his 59th extra-base hit of the season (33 doubles, one triple and 25 homers), tying his career high set with Atlanta in 1996. ...
