MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Vladimir Guerrero's two-run single keyed a seven-run third inning for Montreal, as the Expos beat the Milwaukee Brewers 9-4 in a rain-delayed game Tuesday night.

Following a delay of 2 hours, 12 minutes before the game, the Expos broke out to an 8-0 lead after three innings against Steve Woodard (1-5) and coasted from there.

Jose Vidro had a two-run double in the third and a solo homer in the ninth for Montreal.

Carl Pavano (7-3) allowed seven hits and three walks in five scoreless innings to win for the fourth time in his last six starts.

Casanova hit his first career grand slam in the eighth inning off reliever Steve Kline for the Brewers, who had won three straight.

The Expos ruined Steve Woodard's return to the starting rotation with the seven-run third inning, snapping Milwaukee's three-game winning streak.

Already trailing 1-0 on Orlando Cabrera's RBI single in the second, Woodard allowed the first six batters to reach and five runs to score before retiring a batter in the third.

A pair of singles and walk loaded the bases before Guerrero hit a two-run single. Vidro followed with a liner that left-fielder Geoff Jenkins lost in the lights for a two-run double.

Vidro scored on Geoff Blum's single. One out later, Cabrera singled and Pavano sacrificed the runners to second and third. Peter Bergeron, who led off the inning with a bunt single, hit a two-run single to knock out Woodard.

Woodard gave up eight runs and 11 hits in his shortest start since going two innings against Seattle on Aug. 2, 1997.

Woodard was making his first start since being banished to the bullpen May 24. He made seven appearances in long relief before an injury to right-hander Jeff D'Amico six days ago forced the pitching-thin Brewers to press Woodard back into the rotation.

Notes: Tyler Houston, who started 19 games at catcher, made his first start at first for Milwaukee. ... Milwaukee's Santiago Perez double in the second extended the rookie's hitting streak to seven straight games, a career-high. ... Despite playing the game, the Brewers said rainchecks would be honored to any remaining game, except the last one at County Stadium.
