GAME LOG
MIAMI (AP) -- Ramon Martinez can't explain his success against the Marlins. Martinez beat Florida for the eighth time in nine career decisions to lead the Boston Red Sox over the Marlins 4-3 Tuesday night.
Martinez (5-3) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings. He has a 2.45 career ERA against the Marlins. Nomar Garciaparra had three RBI to lead the Red Sox and has three home runs in June after only hitting two in April and May combined. "I don't know if I've ever worried about power," Garciaparra said. "I never thought my power was gone in the first place. I just go out there and try to hit the ball." Garciaparra, who went 2-for-5, has 13 hits in his last 25 at-bats with three homers and six RBI, raising his average to .374 and his home-run total to five. "He's just a good hitter. If he catches the ball right, it's going to go out," Boston manager Jimy Williams said. "He doesn't necessarily try to hit home runs. He just tries to hit the ball hard." The Red Sox won their second straight after losing their previous five. "I don't think anybody ever panicked. We just went out and played our game," Garciaparra said. Jesus Sanchez (4-5) gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings. While the Marlins dropped to 33-21 in interleague play, it is still the best record in the major leagues. "It was another great game, another one run game, pretty well played, but a loss is a loss," Florida manager John Boles said. "One-run games kind of sting because you reflect back on the opportunities you had." Cliff Floyd's 11th homer put Florida ahead in the first and Preston Wilson made it 2-0 with an RBI triple in the third. Garciaparra's two-run homer tied it in the fourth, and the Red Sox went ahead in the fifth on RBI singles by Garciaparra and Stanley.
