ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Anaheim Angels manager Mike Scioscia continues to marvel at the talents of third baseman Troy Glaus. Glaus homered twice and made two good defensive plays Friday night in the Angels' 6-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Asked if he's seen a better third baseman in the American League, Scioscia shook his head and said, "Nope." "I've seen some good ones, but I've not seen one quite like Troy. It's hard to realize this kid isn't even 24 yet." Glaus hit a two-run homer in the second inning, then a solo shot for an insurance run in the eighth, his 13th home run. He also made a fine fielding play on Brian Johnson's hard grounder just inside the bag in the third inning, spinning and going to his knees to make the stop, then quickly rising to throw Johnson out. With runners on second and third and one out in the ninth, Glaus fielded Johnny Damon's grounder down the line and started a rundown that nailed the lead runner and helped closer Troy Percival preserve the lead. "I'm just trying to do my part," Glaus said. "We've been working very hard on the art of hitting, doing a lot of drills." Tim Salmon's two-run homer in the sixth brought Anaheim back from a 4-3 deficit, Garret Anderson homered and tripled, and Jarrod Washburn earned his first win of the year. After Kansas City moved ahead 4-3 on Johnson's RBI single in the sixth, Salmon's homer off Jeff Suppan (1-4) in the bottom of the inning put Anaheim in front to stay. Salmon's 10th homer followed a leadoff single by Mo Vaughn to make it 5-4. Angels reliever Shigetoshi Hasegawa pitched 1 2/3 hitless innings and Percival earned his 11th save. Glaus gave Anaheim a two-run lead with his 13th homer, a solo shot off Jose Santiago in the eighth. Kansas City has allowed a league-high 71 home runs. "It's a concern, but the bottom line is wins," said Johnson, the Royals' catcher. "Home runs don't win a championship for you, nor do they lose it. "Right now we're playing good baseball. We're staying in games longer, we're still above .500, we've made progress since last year and we're still in the hunt." With the Royals down 3-0 in the fifth, Carlos Beltran led off with his second homer of the year and first since April 9. Damon's sacrifice fly and Mike Sweeney's RBI single later in the inning tied it. Washburn, who breezed through the Royals lineup in order in the first three innings, gave up two hits in the fourth, four in the three-run fifth, and two in the sixth when the Royals took their short-lived lead. Washburn (1-1), on the disabled list with a muscle strain when the season started, made his second start since being called up from Triple-A Edmonton. He gave up four runs, three earned, on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one. "It's fun to pitch and play with these guys. We've got a great offensive team," Washburn said. "You can't ask any more of these guys, offensively and defensively." Suppan allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits in six innings. He struck out four. Glaus put the Angels ahead 2-0 in the second with a two-run shot to left field off Suppan, following Anderson's one-out triple. Anderson's ninth home run gave Anaheim a three-run pad in the fourth. His homer to right-center came after third baseman Joe Randa dropped Anderson's pop foul for an error. Game notesAngels right-hander Jason Dickson will be placed on the disabled list with tendinitis in his left hip and stiffness in his right shoulder. Anaheim also will purchase the contract of right-hander Brett Hinchliffe from Triple-A Edmonton and make room on the 40-man roster by transferring right-hander Tim Belcher to the 60-day DL. All the moves become effective Saturday. ... Belcher, 38, has not made the progress hoped for in his return from elbow surgery in the off-season. ...
