Expos error opens door for Phillies

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

MONTREAL (AP) -- Montreal third baseman Michael Barrett's error with two outs in the seventh inning allowed the go-ahead run to score in the Philadelphia Phillies' 6-4 victory over the Expos on Thursday night.

Randy Wolf (2-2) allowed four runs -- three earned -- and seven hits in six innings as the Phillies won for the sixth time in their last eight games.

With Philadelphia trailing 4-3, Mickey Morandini singled off Carl Pavano (3-1) and scored on Tom Prince's double to tie the game.

One out later, Prince advanced to third on Kevin Sefcik's grounder to first. Desi Relaford walked and left-hander Matt Blank came in to face Bobby Abreu.

Abreu hit a grounder that caromed off Barrett into short left field, scoring Prince to make it 5-4. Shortstop Orlando Cabrera recovered the ball and threw to Barrett to cut down Relaford, who was trying to advance to third. It was Barrett's seventh error of the season.

Wayne Gomes, who allowed three runs in Tuesday's 3-2 loss for his second blown save, pitched the ninth for his sixth save.

Montreal lost its first home series in six at Olympic Stadium this season. The Expos are 11-7 at home.

Pavano, who struck out a career-high seven in 6 2/3 innings, allowed Kevin Jordan's two-run triple in the first and Scott Rolen's RBI double in the third.

Jose Vidro's three-run homer in the bottom half tied it at 3. Montreal took a 4-3 lead in the fourth when Cabrera's double to the left field corner rolled past Ron Gant for a two-base error. Cabrera slid home safely just ahead of the relay.

Morandini hit an RBI triple off Anthony Telford to drive in Philadelphia's sixth run in the eighth.

Jordan started at first base in place of Rico Brogna, who was lost to the Phillies for the next 10-12 weeks with a broken left wrist.
