Toronto homers 4 times as White Sox fall 5-3

RECAP | BOX SCORE | GAME LOG

CHICAGO (AP) -- A new month meant the same old power from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Brad Fullmer hit a two-run, tiebreaking shot in the sixth inning -- one of four Toronto homers -- and right-hander Chris Carpenter stayed perfect in six career decisions against Chicago as the Blue Jays beat the White Sox 5-3 Monday night.

Toronto led the AL with 43 homers in April and picked it back up on the first day of May. Raul Mondesi, Jose Cruz Jr., and Alex Gonzalez also homered off Kip Wells (2-3).

Carpenter (3-3) won his third straight game this season and ran his career record to 4-0 in Comiskey Park. He gave up five hits, including back-to-back homers on successive pitches to Chris Singleton and Carlos Lee in the fifth, and was replaced after issuing two-out walks to Ray Durham and Jose Valentin in the eighth.

Billy Koch then retired Frank Thomas on a roller to third and pitched the ninth for his sixth save. Koch allowed an RBI groundout to Lee in the ninth.

Mondesi led off the sixth with his fifth homer to tie the game at 2. After Carlos Delgado doubled, Fullmer followed with a two-run shot to right, his sixth, to give the Jays a 4-2 lead. Gonzalez hit his first of the season in the seventh to expand the lead to three.

Cruz homered to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead in the third before Singleton and Lee, connected in the fifth.

Notes: It was the fifth time this season the Blue Jays have homered four times in a game. The Blue Jays have homered in 21 of their 27 games but had gone three straight without a long ball. ... Carpenter had a strange start. As he tried to deliver his first pitch, he caught his spikes and fell off the mound. ... Singleton made a spectacular catch, diving after a long run to snare a line drive to center field by Tony Batista, to save a run in the fourth. ... The White Sox have homered back-to-back four times this season. ... Thomas started as the DH despite a sore hamstring and limped noticeably every time he ran to first.
