SEATTLE (AP) -- Freddy Garcia may follow Jamie Moyer onto the
disabled list. John Mabry will be out more than a month.

The Seattle Mariners lost four starters to injuries, but got a three-run homer by Jay Buhner to beat the Kansas City Royals 10-2 Friday night.
"It was like a war zone out there," said Dr. Larry Pedegana,
the Mariners' medical director. "I don't think I've ever seen so
many injuries in this short a time. Even in a football game."
Mike Cameron and Edgar Martinez also left with injuries, but the
Mariners still had enough to hand Kansas City its seventh straight loss.
"I've never seen anything like that before," said Frankie
Rodriguez (2-0), who replaced Garcia in the third inning. "I was
trying to hide. I didn't want to catch whatever it was."
Buhner hit his fifth homer of the season in the sixth inning,
while Dan Wilson doubled in two runs in the fifth off Chad Durbin
(1-1) to put the Mariners ahead 6-1.
John Olerud doubled twice as Seattle scored 10 runs or more for the fifth time in six games and the first time at Safeco Field this season.
Royals manager Tony Muser felt sorry for his young rookie starter.
"He had a tough night, but he still had a pretty good presence
out there," Muser said. "He's 22-years old pitching in front of a
big crowd, with lots of noise, a rookie right out of Double-A
ball."
Before the game, the Mariners placed their No. 1 starter, the
left-handed Moyer, on the 15-day disabled list because of a
strained muscle in the back of his left shoulder.
The news got worse for manager Lou Piniella in the first four
innings. Cameron, Seattle's center fielder, bruised his left knee
in the second when he was hit by a foul ball off the bat of
teammate Dan Wilson.
Garcia, the Mariners' No. 2 starter, left in the top of the third with a twisted right knee while attempting to cover first base. He will be re-evaluated on Saturday and there is a possibility he could have to go on the disabled list, too, Pedegana said.
Mabry pulled his right groin while trying to field Jermaine Dye's hit in the third. Martinez, the Mariners' designated hitter, had a sore left quadriceps in the third after an RBI groundout.
Cameron had his knee X-rayed, and the Mariners didn't find a fracture. Pedegana thought Martinez's injury wasn't too severe, but said Mabry's groin pull was severe and he would be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks.
"I feel OK," Martinez said. "I feel it's not very serious."
Rodriguez pitched four shutout innings after Garcia left, allowing four hits.
"I used to be a starter," Rodriguez said. "So when I went in
there, it was my job to eat up innings. If we're looking for
another starter, hey, I'm here. I'm always available."
The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the third on Carlos Febles' RBI
double that ran Febles' hitting streak to 15 games, longest in the
majors this season.
In the bottom of the inning, the Mariners scored three runs.
Alex Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded. Olerud and Martinez then had RBI groudouts.
"It was almost like a National League game with guys coming in
and guys going out," Muser said.
Game notes
The Mariners' Mark McLemore played center field for the
first time in his 12-year career when Piniella moved him there in
the third. He also played left and second in the game. ... Piniella
had one position player, catcher Joe Oliver, left on his bench. ...
In their seven consecutive defeats, the Royals have not held the
lead at the end of an inning. ... During Febles' 15-game hitting
streak, he's hitting .367 (22-for-60) with five RBIs and nine runs
scored. ... The Mariners recalled RHP Brett Tomko from Triple-A
Tacoma to take Moyer's place as Saturday's starter against the
Royals. ... After the game, the Mariners recalled INF Carlos
Hernandez, who will replace Mabry on the team's roster. Mabry will
be placed on the disabled list. ... RHP Jay Witasick will start for the Royals on Saturday after missing his a start because of arm
fatigue and soreness in his right biceps. ... OF Shane Monahan, who
played in 60 games for the Mariners in 1998, was released. Monahan
played eight games at Tacoma this season.
