TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) _ Jose Valentin's bases-clearing triple fueled a six-run eighth inning and Frank Thomas homered as the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-8 Monday night.

Carlos Lee added a two-run double and Greg Norton hit a sacrifice fly for the other run as Chicago roughed up reliever Matt Mantei in the eighth. Mantei gave up five runs on one hit, three walks and a hit batsman, and recorded just one out.

The White Sox took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Ray Durham led off with a double against Arizona starter Omar Daal. With one out, Thomas (2-for-3, 3 RBI) homered to left field.

The Diamondbacks cut the lead to 2-1 in the second inning against Chicago starter Cal Eldred. With the bases loaded and two outs, Tony Womack drew a walk to force Steve Finley home.

Finley (2-for-4, 3 RBI) hit his fourth homer of the spring, a three-run shot, off Eldred, and Damian Miller had an RBI single, in the third inning as Arizona took a 5-2 lead.

The Diamondbacks made it 7-2 in the sixth, but shortstop Tony Womack's error allowed Chicago to pull within 7-5 in the bottom half of the inning on run-scoring singles by Thomas, Magglio Ordonez and Paul Konerko.

The Sox added another run in the seventh, when Durham walked and eventually scored on a wild pitch, before taking the lead in the eighth.

Keith Foulke (1-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Eldred pitched four innings, giving up five runs on six hits and six walks.

Daal gave up five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.
