JUPITER, Fla. (AP) _ Jim Edmonds went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in his first game for St. Louis as the Cardinals fell to the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 on Saturday. Edmonds, acquired from Anaheim on Thursday for Kent Bottenfield and Adam Kennedy, batted second and had a run-scoring single in the second inning, Ryan Minor, who played third for Baltimore in place of Cal Ripken, had three hits for the Orioles. Albert Belle, Eugene Kingsale and Jesus Garcia had two each. Cardinal pitcher Rick Ankiel was inconsistent, allowing eight hits and three runs in four innings, but striking out five. Ankiel and second baseman Fernando Vina also had RBI singles for St. Louis. Calvin Maduro allowed three runs in five innings for the win.
