BOX SCORE
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Kris Benson allowed two hits in six shutout innings and Kevin Young had a two-run double as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat New York 5-1 Monday night, the Yankees 10th loss in 11 games. Benson held the Yankees hitless until Shane Spencer lined a one-out single to left in the fifth inning. ``That was the best stuff I've seen all spring, no question,'' Yankees manager Joe Torre. ``Two different breaking balls that were both outstanding. That was big time tonight.'' Benson, who struck out five and walked two, fanned Chuck Knoblauch and Derek Jeter twice each. ``It's great to throw that way on any day,'' Benson said. ``The Yankees have a great lineup and you can't take them lightly.'' Yankees starter Roger Clemens allowed three runs and five hits in six innings. The five-time Cy Young Award retired 13 straight after struggling early. ``He was a little under the weather, he had a little of a bug,'' Torre said. ``I thought his stuff was good. If he doesn't want to feel good all year, it's OK with me with that kind of stuff.'' Said Clemens: ``I didn't have as much energy as I had in previous starts. But I felt well enough to get out there and get it done. It was the best I located this spring.'' Clemens remains on target to make two more spring starts, including the first game at Houston's Enron Field on Mar. 30. John Vander Wal hit a solo homer off Mike Stanton in the seventh-inning for Pittsburgh. Jason Wood added a solo shot off Mariano Rivera in the ninth, the second homer allowed this spring by the Yankees' closer. New York scored in the seventh when Alfonso Soriano scored on a passed ball. The Yankees have scored just three runs in the past three games. Young's two-run double put Pittsburgh up 2-0 in the first inning as four of the first five Pirates reached base against Clemens. Clemens retired the next 13 hitters until Jason Kendall ended the streak with an infield single leading off the sixth inning.
