DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) _ In addition to working out a three-way trade, the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays played, too. Chris Carpenter made his second start of the spring, and Charlie Greene and Kevin Witt homered as the Blue Jays beat the Rangers 6-2 Thursday. In a swap of first basemen/designated hitters that was announced during the game, Toronto dealt David Segui to Texas, which sent Lee Stevens to Montreal. The Expos then sent Brad Fullmer to the Blue Jays. Carpenter allowed one run and four hits in two innings and struck out two. He had offseason elbow surgery and visited Dr. James Andrews on March 6, concerned about swelling in the right elbow. ``I reached my pitch count,'' Carpenter said. ``I don't want to push it too hard or to quickly. I don't want to suffer a setback.'' Winner Clayton Andrews allowed one hit in four scoreless innings. Loser Tim Crabtree gave three runs _ two earned _ and five hits _ in two innings. Mike Simms homered for Texas. Notes: Toronto RHP Joey Hamilton threw 45 pitches in a two-inning simulated at the Blue Jays' minor league complex. ``He struggled a bit with his mechanics in the first inning but in the second inning he got better,'' Toronto manager Jim Fregosi said. Hamilton had shoulder surgery last September. ... Rangers RHP Esteban Loaiza, who had been scheduled to start, was a late scratch because of stiffness in his right elbow. ... Toronto scratched SS Alex Gonzalez because of flu. Gonzalez had been the previous six games with a strained muscle. ... OF Shannon Stewart was also scratched because of a sore heal.
