CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) _ Shortstop Kevin Polcovich botched a potential game-ending double play for Detroit's sixth error, allowing two runs to scored as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Tigers 5-4 on Monday.

Trailing 4-3, the Phillies loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against loser Jim Poole. Pat Burrell hit a sharp grounder that Polcovich fielded and threw wildly into right field, allowing Jimmy Rollins and Josue Perez to score.

Detroit made three errors in the ninth inning.

``They sort of helped us out a little bit,'' Phillies manager Terry Francona said.

Winner Steve Schrenk pitched a scoreless ninth for the win.

The Tigers took a 4-3 lead in the eighth when former Phillies outfielder Billy McMillon hit a two-run homer off Carlos Reyes. McMillon signed with Detroit as a six-year minor league free agent during the offseason and is a longshot to win a spot on the team as an extra outfielder.

Chris Pritchett, who was 2-for-3, gave the Phillies a 3-1 lead in the third with a two-run single. The non-roster first baseman/outfielder is hitting 7-for-10 with two homers and six RBIs in three games.

Tigers starter Jeff Weaver gave up an unearned run and one hit in two innings. Phillies starter Randy Wolf allowed four hits and one run over two innings.

Chris Brock followed Wolf and worked three scoreless innings to take another step toward winning a spot in the starting rotation. Brock, a right-hander acquired from San Francisco, hasn't allowed a run in five innings this spring.

Phillies right fielder Bobby Abreu, who had offseason elbow surgery, played for the first time this spring and was 0-for-1 with a walk.

Before the game, Phillies reliever Jeff Brantley opted against taking a second day off and threw a bullpen session.

Brantley, who hasn't pitched since shoulder surgery last May, is scheduled to pitch a simulated game Wednesday and hopes to pitch in his first exhibition game Friday or Saturday.

The Phillies also made their first move of the spring by sending right-hander David Coggin to their minor league camp.
