RECAP
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ At least Andy Pettitte is healthy. The left-hander allowed two runs and four hits in 2 1-3 innings Friday in the New York Yankees' 7-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. ``I felt good,'' said Pettitte, who threw 36 of 57 pitches for strikes. ``I ran out of gas a little bit at the end. It's definitely step in in the right direction, that's for sure.'' Toronto catcher Alberto Castillo had an RBI single in the sixth inning, giving him four RBIs in two days as the Blue Jays swept a home-and-home series against New York. Chad Mottola had a two-run double during a three-run seventh-inning and Jose Cruz hit his second homer in two days, a ninth-inning solo shot. Jim Leyritz had a solo homer for the Yankees. The New York starting rotation has been hit by injuries and illness. The Yankees said before the game that Orlando Hernandez will miss his first start Saturday because of back stiffness. ``El Duque'' joins the two contenders for the No. 5 spot, Ed Yarnall (back stiffness) and Ramiro Mendoza (bronchitis), on the sidelines. Hernandez's injury is not considered serious. Yarnall could begin throwing off a mound Sunday, while Mendoza's status remains in limbo because of bronchitis and could be shutdown completely for several days. Toronto starter Roy Halladay gave up one run and four hits in 2 2-3 innings. He threw 48 pitches, including 30 strikes. ``My location was better than it has been, but I still got a long way to go,'' Halladay said. ``The main thing about spring training is to get ready for the season. That's my main concern.'' New York closer Mariano Rivera replaced Pettitte with runners on first and second and retired the only two hitters he faced. Notes: Suspended Yankees OF Darryl Strawberry's locker at Legends Field has been cleaned out and his nameplate removed. ... Yogi Berra was in uniform for the first time this spring and Don Mattingly, another special instructor, threw out the ceremonial first pitch. ... Lee Elia managed the Blue Jays, replacing Jim Fregosi, who was attending a team function in Toronto.
