PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ It was a night to remember for the Guerrero brothers.

Vladimir Guerrero hit a pair of three-run homers and Wilton Guerrero connected for his first career grand slam in what is believed to be the biggest run-producing night by brothers in major league history.

"I'll take my chances on that," Expos manager Felipe Alou said after being told that the Elias Sports Bureau was almost certain the Guerreros had broken a record. "If Babe Ruth had a brother and he could have gotten an RBI in a game, maybe."

Vladimir Guerrero's six RBIs raised his season total to 130, a career high. With his 40th and 41st homers, he also became the first Montreal player ever to hit 40 in a season.

"The family is going to be happy," Wilton Guerrero said.

Vladimir Guerrero homered to left field in the first inning and hit a shot to right in the sixth. It was his third multihomer game of the season and fourth of his career.

Wilton Guerrero's grand slam in the second inning, off Paul Byrd (15-11), made it 9-0. It was just his second homer of the season and his first grand slam at any level.

The Guerrero brothers homered in the same game for only the second time. They also did it Aug. 15, 1998, at Cincinnati, when Wilton hit the first home run of his career.

Fernando Seguignol also homered for the Expos, connecting on the first pitch after Vladimir Guerrero's homer in the first.

Byrd gave up six hits, four earned runs and three walks in just 1 2-3 innings.

Byrd, a member of the NL All-Star team, won just once in the final six weeks, going 1-5 in his final seven starts. It was also the second time this season he has given up three homers in a game.

"Right now, I'm taking an inning and a third into the offseason," said Byrd. "I'll probably come to my senses in a week and realize I won 15 games. But basically I fell apart over the last part of the season."

Phillies manager Terry Francona wanted Byrd to focus on the positives of his season.

"I told him not to forget what he did this season," Francona said. "He'll be hard on himself but he did a fine job for us this season."

Jeremy Powell (4-8) bounced back from a bad outing against Atlanta last Sunday, when he gave up eight runs and 10 hits in a 10-0 loss. He allowed three runs and five hits in six innings against the Phillies.

Catcher Michael Barrett "told me to throw my fastball and be aggressive with a big lead," said Powell, who was handed a 5-0 lead in the first. "So I threw some fastballs and got ahead. It was a good learning experience."

The Phillies scored a run in the first on an RBI double by Mike Lieberthal and two in the second on a single by Doug Glanville.

Miguel Batista pitched three scoreless innings for his first major league save.

Notes: Byrd's second-inning error broke a 59-inning stretch without an error for the Phillies. Philadelphia had gone six games without committing a miscue. ... Byrd has pitched 199 2-3 innings this season. ... Powell is 2-9 in 14 road starts. ...With Byrd missing a 200-inning season due to his poor outing on Saturday, the Phillies failed to have a pitcher reach that mark for just the third time since 1946. ... Montreal's Trace Coquillette had a career-high three hits.
