Jockey Jerry Bailey got number 5,000 on Gaviola in the Beaugay Handicap.
Gaviola edged away from Truebreadpudding in the final yards to register a half-length victory in the race for fillies and mares three and older.

The 43-year-old Bailey won the Beaugay for the fourth time in eight runnings. He was aboard Cox Orange in 1994, Christmas Gift in 1996, and Perfect Sting in 2000.

"You take it anywhere you can get it," Bailey said of his milestone, "but it's extra special achieving this in New York because this is where I live and this is my home base. I guess it's fitting that I did it on the turf because that's where I've had a lot of my success. It feels pretty good."

Laffit Pincay, Jr. is racing's winningest jockey with more than 9,100 victories.

Gaviola, carrying 120 pounds, covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:41:3 on the firm turf course and earned $65,940 for Twilite Farms. The win was the first in two starts this year for Gaviola, who returned $2.90, $2.40 and $2.10.

Truebreadpudding returned $5.50 and $2.10. Efficient Frontier paid $2.10 to show.

Also, Peeping Tom won the 101st running of the $300,000, Grade I Withers Stakes for three-year-olds.

Peeping Tom, a 4-year-old gelding, carried 118 and Shaun Bridgmohan seven furlongs in 1:21:1 to earn $180,000 for Flatbird Stable.

Peeping Tom paid $5.90, $3.20 and $2.20. Say Florida Sandy was second and returned $4.70 and $2.60. Hook and Ladder paid $2.40 to show.
