Two drop out, one signs up for Arc de Triomphe Reuters | |||
PARIS -- Sunday's Arc de Triomphe lost two more runners but gained another on Thursday as owners reshuffled the field for the French classic. The latest to drop out of the Longchamp race were the sole remaining British-trained runner, Commander Collins, and the pacemaker of hot favourite Montjeu, Stop By. The Aga Khan's Raypour was the addition to the field, almost certainly in a pace-making role for Sinndar, winner of this year's English and Irish Derbys. It leaves the race, which on Wednesday lost Air Shakur and Mutafaweq, with a maximum of 10 runners. Despite the defections, there is still quality in depth in the mile and a half group one race. Along with Montjeu and Sinndar, it will feature unbeaten German champion Samum, plus two home-trained winning fillies, Volvoreta (Prix Vermeille) and Egyptband (French Oaks).
