Bear Creek High (Colo.) quarterback Justin Holland passed for 468 yards and six touchdowns in his team's 49-7 win over Arvada West High this past weekend, building on one record and breaking another. The Colorado State-bound Holland needed 441 yards to become the state's all-time leader in passing yards, but he got 468 yards to bring his career total to 9,510.

While leading his team to an 8-2 record this season, Holland has also shattered the previous record for career touchdown passes (92), becoming the first player in Colorado 11-man football history to reach 100 TD passes. Both of the records Holland broke this past weekend were previously held by Bear Creek alum Sean Davis (1992-95). ...

Three Arizona high school volleyball teams built on their strong reputations by winning state titles this past weekend. Xavier Prep, led by USC-bound middle blocker Emily Adams, won its third Class 5A title in four years by beating Horizon High, 7-15, 15-13, 15-10. In Class 4A, Apollo High won its second consecutive state title, beating No. 1-seeded Chaparral High, 15-13, 8-15, 15-12. And at the 3A level, Monument Valley High, which is 90-1 over the past two years, topped off a perfect season by defeating Ganado High for its second straight championship.

Midwest
Seven Romulus High (Mich.) football players orally committed to play football at the same college -- Division I Eastern Michigan University -- next fall. The players, all of whom will receive full scholarships, are offensive tackle Sam Estes (6-foot-6, 330 pounds), defensive back Ray Graves (5-10, 175), quarterback Daniel Jarrett (6-2, 195), offensive tackle Myron Mosbey (6-4, 370), receiver Chris Talley (6-0, 180), linebacker John Wester (6-2, 230) and defensive back Mike Woods (5-9, 175). ...

Crane Tech (Ill.) point guard Will Bynum has decided that the University of Arizona is the place for him. The 5-foot-8 Bynum, who averaged 19 points and 11 assists per game last season, chose the Wildcats over Auburn, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Miami and Mississippi State. He orally committed during his official visit this past weekend. ...

Cretin-Derham Hall (Minn.) quarterback Joe Mauer had a near-perfect game in leading his team past Eagan High, 62-34, and into the state quarterfinals. Mauer, one of the most sought-after signal-callers in the country, was 17-for-20 for 333 yards and seven touchdown passes. That's right, seven. Cretin-Derham Hall faces Blaine High this Friday at 7 p.m.

West
Dominguez High (Calif.) boys' basketball coach Russell Otis was placed on paid administrative leave by the Compton Unified School District after being arrested last Thursday on suspicion of sodomy with a 17-year-old. Otis, who has led his team to four state championships in five years and to a national title last season, posted bail for $100,000. ...

Thanks to yet another 300-yard effort, this time against Santa Barbara High last weekend, Ventura High (Calif.) running back Tyler Ebell became just the fourth player in state history to break the 3,000-yard mark. The UCLA-bound Ebell scampered for 365 yards on 24 carries in leading his team to a 42-8 win. He upped his season total to 3,102 yards and is within striking distance of the state single-season mark of 3,586 yards, set last year by Jermaine Marshall of Kilpatrick High.

Southeast
Northwestern High (Fla.) senior defensive lineman Robert Hogdson stopped Jackson High quarterback Kevin Jackson at the 2-yard line with less than a minute left in the game to preserve a 14-8 win for Northwestern in the annual ?Soul Bowl.? The win was Northwestern's 18th in the last 21 meetings in the game, so named because of the predominantly African-American attendance at both schools. ...

The Cardinal Gibbons High (Fla.) girls' volleyball team beat Westminster Academy four times in the regular season, but that didn't matter when the two teams squared off in the Class 4-3A regional final Saturday. Westminster won, keeping Gibbons out of the state tourney for the first time since 1991.

Northeast
Glen Burnie North County High (Md.) quarterback Mike Pfisterer became the state's all-time leader in career passing yards (6,339) Friday when he went for 254 yards in the team's loss to Annapolis High. Pfisterer, who will most likely play his college ball at the Division II or III level, completed 20 of 27 passes to move past Lucas Phillips of Baltimore Mount St. Joseph High. ...

The previously undefeated Penn-Trafford High (Pa.) football team lost to North Allegheny High in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs, 14-0, this past weekend. Penn-Trafford came into the contest as the No. 4-seeded team in Class AAAA, but that didn't matter as North Allegheny limited the Warriors to just 97 yards rushing. The coaches of the two teams grew up together in Jeannette, Pa.
