Barnes, Texas welcome diaper dandies

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

Coach Rick Barnes has done an outstanding recruiting job down at Texas.

After losing veterans like Royal Ivey, Brian Boddicker, James Thomas and Brandon Mouton, Barnes bought in an outstanding class for this season.

Barnes swears by freshman Daniel Gibson as his point guard and floor general.
Barnes swears by freshman Daniel Gibson as his point guard and floor general. He also expects big things up front from LaMarcus Aldridge, a 6-10 diaper dandy from Dallas. When you add Mike Williams, Dion Dowell and Conner Atchley, the depth is there.

The Longhorns have veteran talent, including P.J. Tucker, Sydmill Harris, Brad Buckman, Jason Klotz, Kenton Paulino and Kenny Taylor.

Barnes received great news with the verbal commitment for 2005 from 6-6 wing player Calvin Miles, who picked Texas over Kansas and Georgia Tech. The hits just keep on coming in Austin!

  • Alabama coach Mark Gottfried received some good news when 6-9 Richard Hendrix gave a verbal commitment. Hendrix picked the Crimson Tide over North Carolina.

  • New Stanford coach Trent Johnson had to be concerned with point guard Chris Hernandez's inability to practice due to an ankle injury. The Cardinal have a dynamite inside-outside combo with Hernandez and Rob Little.

  • Washington State suffered a blow when freshman point guard Derrick Low, a potential starter, broke a bone in his foot during practice. Coach Dick Bennett must deal with the reality that his diaper dandy could miss the start of the season.
