Sept. 29 | Dick's Stock Watch provides a fast-glance review of the past week in the world of sports, charting whose stock is up and whose is down...
STOCK UP: NCAA gets it right, restores Michigan's eligibility
NCAA -- The NCAA infractions appeal committee did the right thing by making Michigan's hoop team eligible for postseason play. Watch out for Tommy Amaker and the Wolverines. Justice was served and those Michigan kids shouldn't have been punished last year for what happened during the Fab Five era.
Chicago Cubs -- The Cubs went from 67-95 last year to NL Central champs this season. Manager Dusty Baker has done a terrific job, and GM Jim Hendry deserves a lot more credit for the moves he made, adding the likes of Kenny Lofton and Aramis Ramirez.
Carlos Delgado -- Delgado hit four home runs and totaled six RBI on Thursday against the Devil Rays. Some guys don't get that in a month!
Minnesota Vikings -- The Vikings are unbeaten and Randy Moss is playing like an All-Pro again. He had three more touchdowns in a rout of the Niners. Gus Frerotte did a great job filling in for injured QB Daunte Culpepper.
B.J. Symons -- The Texas Tech quarterback threw for 661 yards and six touchdowns in a wild win over Mississippi and QB Eli Manning.
Peyton Manning -- Manning enjoyed his homecoming in New Orleans with six touchdown passes as the Colts beat the Saints.
STOCK DOWN: Astros give away NL Central
Houston Astros -- The Astros lost to Milwaukee on Friday and Saturday. That allowed the Cubs to clinch the NL Central on Saturday. Cubs manager Dusty Baker should send some roses to the Astros.
New York Jets -- The Jets are winless and scored just six points at home against the Cowboys. Do you think coach Herman Edwards will feel the pressure now at those press conferences? Owner Woody Johnson can't be too happy.
San Francisco 49ers -- The Niners were blown out by the Vikings, and WR Terrell Owens is not a happy camper. He has been critical about not getting the ball enough. San Francisco has too many players going in different directions who are not on the same page. Minnesota was without QB Daunte Culpepper and it was still Blowout City, baby!
USC football -- USC was upset at California (34-31 in overtime). The Pac-10 is becoming the Wacky-10, baby!
Alabama football -- Alabama blew a 31-10 lead at home and lost to Arkansas 34-31. First-year coach Mike Shula has to be feeling the heat.
