What a surprise, Miami has decided to go to the ACC! Is anybody shocked out there? Yeah, sure.

Finally, ACC commissioner John Swofford can feel a little relieved, because he would have been in Humiliation City if Miami stayed put in the Big East. There had to be lots of tension in the ACC office when Miami put off its decision until Monday.

Loyalty is a thing of the past. Today, it's all about the almighty dollar.

The bottom line is, the ACC's goal was to improve its football fortune. There is no doubt that adding Miami and Virginia Tech to the mix has accomplished that. It gives the ACC a tremendous mix of football schools.

The Big East will remain a strong power in college basketball, no matter how the conference needs to realign. Now, the big question for Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese is this: What will he do for the football schools to keep things exciting? Losing the likes of Miami and Virginia Tech obviously hurts the Big East's football picture.

Geographically, the move to the ACC makes sense for Miami and Virginia Tech. However, when you look at loyalty, you have to wonder. When Miami was looking for a conference to join over a decade ago, the Big East was there. But loyalty is a thing of the past. Today, it's all about the almighty dollar. Piles of cash trump loyalty now.

This move will create chaos for many conferences. Look for other departures to take place as the deck is shuffled.

There are questions galore: Will Louisville and Cincinnati join the Big East? If those two schools join Mr. Tranghese's conference, wow, that would be dynamite for basketball. They are also two solid football programs, but obviously not on the level of Miami and Virginia Tech.
