Buzz Peterson leaves Tulsa after only one season for Tennessee.

Buzz Peterson has accepted the head coaching job at the University of Tennessee, succeeding Jerry Green, who was fired after four consecutive 20-win seasons.

He leaves Tulsa after leading the Golden Hurricane to the 2001 NIT championship, finishing the season with a record of 26-11. This was Peterson's first season in Tulsa after taking over for Bill Self, who led the Golden Hurricane to the Elite Eight last year.

Prior to his year in Tulsa, Peterson was the head coach at Appalachian State, leading the school to a 79-39 record over four seasons.

Peterson played at North Carolina under Dean Smith and was on the Tar Heels' 1982 national championship team, together with his roommate, Michael Jordan.
