I really believe the MAC is the most underrated conference in America. Let's look at three interesting questions surrounding the Mid-American Conference this season:

How will Kent State fare without Gary Waters?
Waters should do a solid job as the new coach at Rutgers, but Kent State will be fine with Stan Heath running the program. You may see a change in the style of play: Waters got the maximum from his personnel, using a ball-control philosophy, seeking high-percentage shots while playing great defense.
I believe Heath will go with a faster pace, much like Michigan State did in reaching four straight Final Fours while he was an assistant there. Kent State upset Indiana in the NCAAs last year and more positive things are expected.
Will the nation learn about Tamar Slay?
Marshall's 6-foot-9 senior is multi-talented, an inside-outside threat. America should get ready as he and J.R. Van Hoose form a dynamite 1-2 punch. Slay needs to be a bit more consistent, especially in big games. He has the talent to be a very special player, but coach Greg White is looking for more consistency.
How will Toledo follow up a solid season?
The Rockets finished 22-11 last season. Stan Joplin did a great job last season. I can't believe he went to camp with the Pistons as a player when I was coaching there. That's right, Joplin and current Boston College coach Al Skinner were two of my cuts! They've turned out to be pretty knowledgeable on the sidelines, baby! Joplin is a good communicator and I love his point guard, Terry Reynolds. He's an exciting player and the catalyst for Toledo.
