CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:
Paul Davis, Michigan State and Steve Novak, Marquette
Sophomore center Paul Davis keyed a pair of Michigan State wins. He scored 19 points, hitting all nine of his free-throw attempts, in a comeback win over Minnesota. The Spartans were down 37-14 but still got the W! Davis also scored a career-high 32 points (11-of-16 field goals) in an impressive showing against Indiana.
Sophomore forward Steve Novak hit 8-of-13 trifectas and finished with 30 points in Marquette's upset at Louisville.
CO-TEAMS OF THE WEEK: Air Force and Charlotte
For those who questioned whether Air Force were legit in the Mountain West, look at last week's results: a pair of double-figure wins. Coach Joe Scott's Falcons beat Utah 62-49 and followed that up with a 58-43 victory at San Diego State. The Falcons are now 15-2 (and a dominating 5-0 in Mountain West).
Coach Bobby Lutz and the 49ers beat Saint Louis followed by a surprise win at Cincinnati.
COACH OF THE WEEK: Eddie Sutton, Oklahoma State
Sutton did a great job regrouping his troops after the Cowboys lost their first game with Texas Tech by 21 points. The Cowboys won the rematch Saturday night by four in Stillwater.
I really believe it's time for Sutton to get serious consideration for the Basketball Hall of Fame.
SHOCK OF THE WEEK: Charlotte over Cincinnati
The 49ers earned their first win over the Bearcats in Cincinnati. Coach Bob Huggins' squad entered the game with a 62-5 record in C-USA home games before the stunning setback. Coach Bobby Lutz's squad knocked down 10-of-26 trifectas to pull off the upset.
DIAPER DANDY OF THE WEEK: Brandon Bass, LSU
Freshman forward Brandon Bass helped the Tigers get to the winner's circle twice. Against Georgia, Bass finished with 17 points (5-of-6 on 3-pointers) while pulling down eight rebounds. In a victory at Alabama, Bass posted 15 points and 13 boards.
