Panthers hope new turf takes

Oct. 6
While the Panthers traveled to San Francisco for ESPN's Sunday night game, their disastrous grass home field -- which may have been responsible for a half-dozen injuries in the Packers game -- was being re-sodded at considerable expense.

This time, a thicker sod known as Dura Turf, in which the root system is attached to a synthetic mat, has been installed for next Sunday's game against the Saints. The NFL and NFL Players Association will send representatives to Ericcson Stadium to certify it as playable.
