Buffalo Bills GM Tom Donahoe is willing to do us this favor again. He was adamant Thursday morning that the Bills have not made a decision on whether to release Doug Flutie or Rob Johnson.

"I guess it's the Marvin Lewis deal all over again," said Donahoe, referring to the media speculation that Lewis was the choice for the Bills' coaching job that went to Gregg Williams.

"The answer is, emphatically, that no decision will be made until next week (on Flutie and Johnson)," Donahoe said. "Any other report or speculation would be false and premature."

Donahoe was responding to a WGR Sports Radio 55 report in Buffalo that Johnson was the odd-man out and Flutie would be retained in part because he was agreeable to taking a pay cut. The station cited unnamed sources close to Johnson.

Johnson and Flutie both met with Donahoe, Williams and members of the offensive coaching staff on Monday and Tuesday as part of the decision-making process.

There has been speculation that Johnson has refused to take a pay cut, thus the decision to release him. In fact, conditional upon which quarterback remains in Buffalo, the Bills have asked both players to restructure their contracts to include playing-time incentives. Johnson and Flutie have been plagued by injuries that have cost them time on the field.

The Bills released defensive tackle Ted Washington, guard Joe Panos and punter Chris Mohr on Thursday. They are awaiting a decision by defensive end Phil Hansen to take a pay cut. Linebacker John Holecek has agreed to restructure his deal, while linebacker Sam Rogers could be a salary casualty next week, along with the pending decision on Flutie or Johnson.
