| TROPHY CLUB, Texas -- Hours after winning $1 million for
driving more than 200 mph, Greg Ray found himself with a $140
speeding ticket for driving 72 mph.
The race car driver was headed home from the Texas Motor
Speedway Sunday night when he was pulled over in this community
north of Fort Worth.
Trophy Club officer Brent Robbins was not impressed with Ray's
Indy Racing League season championship, which the Plano, Texas resident
had clinched by placing third in the Mall.com 500.
"I didn't know who he was," the officer told the Fort Worth
Star-Telegram. "I follow NASCAR, not Indy."
Robbins ticketed Ray for driving 72 mph in a 55 mph zone.
Ray, who was driving his 1999 Chevrolet Corvette, said he was
tired after conducting post-race interviews.
"I was one of the last to leave the speedway, and I was driving
in a group of about five other cars," he said. "He (an officer)
picked me out, but I don't believe I was speeding."
